Lithium is their next big play and…

This Team Is Ready For Another Big Win

Editorial Feature | Jan 23, 2023 | Industry

  • A band of veteran miners at Sokoman Minerals were exploring for gold in resource-rich Newfoundland, when they stumbled on a mineral deposit much more valuable.
  • Flying across their 4-square-mile project in a helicopter, the team noticed a white outcrop in the distance, and landed to take a look. They uncovered what looks to be a massive new hard-rock lithium deposit, that put this region on the map as a new lithium hotspot.
  • Miners have since moved into the region, encouraged by the high concentrations of lithium discovered here, including one early-entry explorer with big plans already underway.
  • This is a rare early entry opportunity. New lithium discoveries often trigger high market caps. But today, you can invest in Manning Ventures (OTC:MANVF, CSE:MANNOTC:MANVF, CSE:MANN) while its market cap is still under $3 million.

There’s good news in the North American lithium market.

A chance lithium discovery has brought renewed attention to Newfoundland, a region well-known for mining. But until recently, historical exploration was mainly focused on metals like iron ore, nickel, silver, and gold.

That was originally the target of Manning Venture’s team of geologists, before they identified what could quickly become a critical North American lithium prospect.

And it couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Domestic Lithium Production Needs to Multiply 15x By 2025 to Satisfy Demand

North America’s minerals crisis cannot be overstated.

Demand for lithium is skyrocketing — led by the meteoric growth in EVs. Lithium demand for EVs in the US alone is projected to grow from 40,000 tons to 400,000 tons by 2030, with CAGR growth over 23%.

Even with the majority of demand growth still in the future, current demand has pushed the price of lithium up nearly 20x in the past two years…

From $5,000/ton, to nearly $80,000/ton.

And that’s just the beginning… by 2040, global demand for lithium is expected to grow 4,000% from today.

Now, so far supply has kept up with demand, but that’s set to change dramatically in only a handful of years. By 2025, demand is expected to outstrip supply by a multiple of 15 times.

These lofty projections have been enough to drive Piedmont Lithium to a market cap of $1 billion, and send Ganfeng’s market cap soaring to a whopping $165 billion.

Now on the flip side, many analysts estimate lithium supply will grow nearly 4X over the next eight years, from the 320,000 metric tons mined last year to 1.4 million metric tons by 2030.2

That means, even with an anticipated quadrupling of supply, lithium will inevitably fall into a perpetual deficit, that only gets greater by the year.

UBS’s renowned Global Head of Mining Research, Glyn Lawcock, issued a warning about this coming shortfall…

“There is not sufficient supply to meet this demand projection based on our knowledge of known projects today. That includes all projects whether they are under construction, in feasibility or still in exploration.”3

And, with the average lithium mine taking 4-10 years from discovery to production, there is little hope of supply catching up in the near term.

Another Ground-Floor Opportunity in One of the Hottest Markets Today

In turn, this has kicked off a domestic lithium boom like none that has ever been seen before.

Investors have already been pouring in, triggering enormous gains for early entries. From Jan. 2, 2020 to mid-December 2022…

Albemarle Corp. (ALB) shot from $73.50 to $254.65 for a 246% gain.4

Piedmont Lithium Ltd.(PLL) made a huge move to 56.01 from $8.31 for a 574% gain.5

Lithium Americas (NASDAQ:LAC) flew from $3.22 to 23.22 for a 621% gain.6

American Lithium Corp. (LIACF) caught investors’ attention at a low price then moved from $0.09 to $1.84 for a 1,944% gain.7

Pilbara Minerals Ltd. (PILBF) ran from $0.20 to $3.03 for a 1,415% gain.8

And Allkem Ltd. (OROCF) over the same period jumped from $1.86 to $8.82 for a 374% gain.9

As demand continues to soar past supply, expect the price of lithium to shoot up at a pace that dwarfs what we’ve seen to date. And you can expect market caps for the companies mining those materials to move in sync.

Especially those like Manning Ventures (OTC:MANVF, CSE:MANNOTC:MANVF, CSE:MANN), a small company located strategically in a relatively new North American lithium hot spot.

Untapped Assets In A Globally Recognized Mining District

Quebec’s history is rich with mining success stories in iron ore, nickel, gold, and in recent years, lithium.

Massive discoveries continue to be added as exploration proceeds on this lithium trend. The area is well-endowed with mineralization, host to a few truly world-class mines:

  • The James Bay Deposit, operated by Allkem, contains an estimated 11.75 Mt at an average concentration of 1.30% Li…
  • The Whabouchi Deposit, operated by Nemaska Lithium, which contains an estimated 36.7 Mt at a concentration of 1.40% Li…
  • The Rose Deposit, operated by Critical Elements, which contains an estimated 31.9 Mt at a concentration of 0.93% Li…
  • And the Pontax Deposit, operated by Patriot Battery Metals. While no resource estimate has yet been established, exploration completed in 2018 discovered new lithium pegmatite occurrences with an outcrop grab sample of 0.94% concentration, right in line with neighboring projects.

Manning Ventures is dedicated to uncovering upside on its James Bay, Quebec project and on its Newfoundland project, both located in highly-prospective regions.

The first sits just to the North of Allkem and Patriot Battery Metals.

Advancing Exploration At The Flagship Bounty Project

Manning Venture’s Bounty Project is located in the historic James Bay region of west-central Quebec. The property consists of 89 mineral claims on an 11,500-acre land package, with proximity to excellent infrastructure and an experienced labor pool.

Exploration has been rapidly advancing on the property, resulting in the identification of 62 pegmatite target areas, many with previously defined indicator-mineralogy and indicator-chemistry for hosting Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum (LCT) style, spodumene-bearing pegmatites.
The initial exploration included a detailed examination of 30 of the 62 pegmatite target areas.

Prior research bodes well for the region – These lithium pegmatites develop in highly evolved swarms, similar to the geology and settings of other large systems in the Appalachian belt.

Chip samples taken to date returned highly anomalous results, with 7 samples ranging from 201 ppm Li with values up to 425 ppm Li, and 16 samples ranging between 81-200 ppm Li.

And that’s just at one of Manning Venture’s prime assets.

The Dipole Lithium Project: Situated Strategically Along A Famous Strike Zone

Manning Ventures increased its lithium footprint by acquiring the option to earn a 100% interest in the Dipole Lithium property. Located in the mining friendly region of Southern Newfoundland, this is a historic center for base and precious metal production.

The property spans 2,463 acres across Newfoundland’s 450 kilometer long pegmatite belt, approximately 50 kilometers from the resource-rich Hermitage flexure.

If you’re not familiar, the Hermitage flexure is a structure containing volcano-sedimentary rock units, which are favorable host-rocks for spodumene-bearing pegmatites.

To date, there have been several positive indicators for lithium mineralization. Historical work report by Falconbridge Mines in 1979 described the following:

  • Aplite dikes containing tourmaline and yellow mica.
  • Spod boulders, which may have been descriptions of spodumene
  • coarse-grained megacrystic granite intruding the volcano-sedimentary belt which may reflect LCT-style pegmatites.
  • Sampling found Tungsten, Molybdenum and Tin in boulders returning up to 1.5% WO3 (Tungsten oxide), 100 ppm Molybdenum and 238 ppm Tin.
  • 1984 historical mapping described lepidolite, a lithium-bearing mica, associated with the tourmaline-garnet bearing aplite dikes.

More recently, the area has gained widespread interest with the recent Kraken zone discovery by Sokoman Minerals Corp.

In a joint venture with Benton Minerals, Sokoman uncovered a large area of lithium mineralization across an apparent strike length of over two kilometers, with surface sampling up to 1.93% Li20 and reconnaissance drilling of up to 8.4 meters over 0.95% Li20.

This marks the first significant discovery of lithium mineralization documented in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

But it’s certainly not the last.

Only 50 kilometers away, Manning Ventures Dipole project is currently awaiting sample results from the reconnaissance program conducted in late October.

A team of geologists targeted several known zones of interest for Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum type pegmatite- and/or tungsten mineralization.

Upon receipt of results from the reconnaissance program, Manning is planning an aggressive exploration program at the Dipole Lithium project.

Solid State Battery Breakthrough Brings New Interest In Hard Rock Lithium

Now it’s important to note that both of Manning’s lithium projects bear hard rock lithium prospects, requiring a more complicated extraction method than the traditional one which processes lithium from brine evaporation pools.

While this was once a barrier to entry for many miners, new extraction technologies have streamlined the process. That’s of critical importance when it comes to the next generation of EVs.

You see, hard rock lithium can be more easily processed into lithium hydroxide, which has the capacity for greater energy density than lithium-carbonate.10 That’s a necessary feature for the development of solid-state batteries.11

And, due to recent breakthroughs in the development of solid-state lithium batteries, demand is on the rise for the lithium hydroxide that can be processed from lithium hosted in spodumene.

  • They weigh less than traditional lithium-ion batteries — a crucial concern for auto manufacturers.
  • They are more energy dense.
  • And they last longer than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Now, solid-state batteries are in the early stages of development. We will still use traditional lithium-ion batteries for years. However, in the future, solid-state batteries are likely to grow in popularity.

And with them, so will hard-rock lithium mines.

EV Makers Race To Secure Supply Chain Partnerships With North American Miners

According to Reuters, “[G]lobal automakers are planning to spend more than half a trillion dollars on electric vehicles and batteries through 2030.”12

All driven by lithium and on the hope of a steady lithium supply chain.

Or as the GlobalX Lithium & Battery Tech ETF put it, “Therefore, growth of the electric car market will have a profound impact on total lithium demand.”

As usual, Elon Musk was ahead of his time when he encouraged the need for allied partnerships between mining companies and electric vehicle makers in order to strengthen the North American lithium supply chain.

In response to data that showed there had been a 1,654% rise in the lithium price in the last ten years, Musk stated, the…

“Price of lithium has gone to insane levels! Tesla might actually have to get into the mining & refining directly at scale, unless costs improve.”

Soon after, on an April earnings call, Musk claimed,

“We think we’re going to need to help the industry on this front. I’d certainly encourage entrepreneurs out there who are looking for opportunities to get into the lithium business.”

Only months later, Rio Tinto and Ford announced a joint venture agreement to secure lithium, aluminum, and copper from the Rincon lithium project in Argentina, as well as other operations across North America.

Toyota Motor Corp. quickly followed suit, announcing a joint battery venture with Panasonic Corp. to purchase lithium from Ioneer Ltd’s Rhyolite Ridge mining project, in Esmeralda County, Nevada. As part of the agreement, Ioneer plans to supply 4,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year for a total of five years to Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES), which was formed by Toyota and Panasonic.

The deal comes with a hefty commitment from PPES. It states that Ioneer’s lithium will be used to build battery parts inside the United States, specifically for American-made EVs.13

These initiatives combined with successful exploration programs have the potential to place a prime buyout target on companies like Manning Ventures (OTC:MANVF, CSE:MANNOTC:MANVF, CSE:MANN), as North America pushes billions of dollars towards ramping up domestic supply.
