The Under-the-Radar Emergency That Keeps Every Nation, Bank, and Administrator Awake at Night:

“Q-Day” is Almost Here

Editorial Feature | Nov13, 2023 | Tech

Quantum Computing is about to unlock every encrypted system and piece of data, all at once.

One Tiny Microcap — BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) — has created a ‘lock’ that can keep our digital infrastructure and information secure.

But time is running out. Much of the data online today could already be compromised.

“This is potentially a completely different kind of problem than one we’ve ever faced.”

Cryptology expert, and fmr. NSA general counsel, Glenn Gerstell1

The New York Times calls it Q-Day.2

It is the most cataclysmic event you’ve never heard of.

And its arrival is inevitable.

No one has yet been able to predict exactly when…

But preparations are already being made.

That’s because — without putting proper precautions in place today — Q-Day will bring about the end of all secrets.

And that’s just the start of it.

Q-Day — the day when quantum computing advances enough, all current encryption technology will become worthless overnight — could bring our entire system crashing down.

Only a very few companies have seen this day coming. One in particular — BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) — has been working on a solution for nearly a decade.

Today, the company’s core IP forms the backbone of a quantum-proof encryption algorithm already being employed by major financial interests.

This new type of encryption can’t reach wider distribution fast enough.

Because, without it, the damage that could be done in a world without encryption would be catastrophic.

  • Forget about the financial system. Bad actors who have cracked encryption could transfer money from any account to any account. They could charge transactions to any credit card they liked. They could erase all records and set everyone back to zero. They could destroy the market cap of entire stock exchanges. And they could do all that within the first few minutes of cracking current encryption tech.
  • If you think industrial espionage is bad today, there is a silver lining. You wouldn’t have to worry about it after Q-Day — because there would be no secrets left. Everything from Coke’s secret formula to the chemical makeup of Agent Orange would be available to the owners of advanced quantum computers. Overnight, every piece of IP ever created could become public knowledge — and easily duplicated.
  • It is best to think of everything created to-date as pre-lost. That’s because today’s most dastardly digital actors — countries like Russia and China — have been stockpiling encrypted information. They understand that, while they cannot read the data today, it will be as easy as clicking the mouse once quantum computing reaches sufficient power. If you want to have any secret in the future, you need to have it protected behind quantum-proof encryption from the start.
  • Of course, this doesn’t end with corporate secrets. Any government system that isn’t air-gapped — that is, it isn’t attached to an outside network — will be subject to intrusion. The dangers run from the mundane — like some light digital vandalism — to the existential — like loss of control over the nation’s power grid. Imagine running an air traffic control system with a GPS that is giving false coordinates — or there is no communication possible whatsoever. Not to mention, Q-Day could reveal every national secret, every government agent in a foreign land, every asset and every weakness, to all our adversaries, all at once.

The only thing that can prevent Q-Day — or at least temper its worst effects — is quantum-proof encryption, of the sort BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) has spent the past decade developing.

The US government agrees.

That’s why last year the US passed, and Biden signed, the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness Act, which starts the process of switching all US systems to quantum-proof encryption.

A transition of this size — once entered with the full force of the government behind it — would take 5-7 years.

We’re not there yet. We’re still in the preparatory stages.

But we can’t get started fast enough.

That’s because, as we enter the age of quantum computing, we are facing, not a digital evolution, but a new digital revolution.

Why Quantum Computing Will Change the World

To understand why we stand on the cusp of a new digital landscape, you need to know something about quantum computing.

Most quantum scientists don’t fully understand quantum computing, but the basics are simple enough.

Computers as we know them run on bits — the zeros and ones that make up all computing language.

Quantum computers use something different — qubits.

A qubit is an electron or photon that’s been isolated in a quantum state.

When it is in this state, a qubit doesn’t just represent a zero or a one.

It can represent a zero and a one.

And, thanks to superposition, it can represent both at the same time.

This means that a network of qubits becomes exponentially more powerful as you add more of them. When you add in quantum entanglement — whereby two qubits become linked and transfer information instantaneously — each qubit can perform four operations at once.3

By contrast, increasing transistors in a regular computer increases computing power linearly.

This is one of the reasons that so many governments and multinational corporations are so worried about quantum computing.

It may still be at a relatively early stage. But quantum computing will increase power at speeds an order of magnitude above what we experienced with regular computing.

This makes the exact timing of Q-Day difficult to predict.

Making it even more difficult, we don’t know where the cutting edge is today.

The Hidden “Space Race”

There may be multiple countries trying to land on the moon and declare themselves participants in the space economy.

But that’s not where countries are devoting their bleeding edge research.

China and Russia are treating their quantum computing projects much like the US treated the Manhattan Project in the 1940s.

When you understand the damage that could be done with quantum computing, it’s easy to see why.

Russia is putting nearly $800 million into quantum computing, at a time when the country can barely afford to keep the lights on.4

We don’t know how much China is spending on quantum computing… but we do know the country has sunk a minimum of $10 billion into building the world’s largest quantum research facility in Hefei.5

Europe and the US have pumped billions into quantum computing as well.

The financial market is working on the problem as well, with $2.35 billion privately invested in quantum start-ups last year.6

That makes sense, given that McKinsey sees quantum computing growing to a $1.3 trillion industry by 2035.

As exciting as these efforts are, we still face a frightening prospect: We don’t know the state of quantum computing outside of western nations.

Which means the arrival of Q-Day could be a total surprise.

That’s bad news for every system that touches the internet.

Why Q-Day Spells the End of Modern-Day Encryption

Almost all modern-day encryption relies on the same basis.

Multiplying prime numbers of unimaginable length, creates sums of ungodly length.

Given the final product, regular computers don’t have the processing power to break these products down to their prime multiples. It would take years — in some cases decades — for our best supercomputers to break such a code.

It is hard to overstate how important this code is.

It is basically the lock on all our entire digital infrastructure — including all data therein.

Sensitive military information being transmitted from one location to another? This encryption protocol protects it.

Same for all of our banks and financial infrastructure, including all stock exchanges.

Our electrical grid — including, in some cases, control over dams.

Our power plants, which could be turned off — or operated outside parameters until they break.

Some of these systems have further protection by being air-gapped — so they can’t be accessed by outside network.

But all of them rely on the same basic encryption to keep their secrets and systems locked away from outside eyes and interference.

Back in 1994, Dr. Peter Schor proved this kind of encryption could be easily cracked with quantum computers of sufficient power.7

A frightening number of qubits are being added to cutting-edge computers at a quickening pace.

Earlier this year, Atom Computing announced they’d achieved a 1,000-qubit quantum computer — more than doubling IBM’s previous record holder in less than a year.8

Meanwhile, we have no idea how far along China is.

The world needs a solution — fast.

And BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) is ready to provide it.

In Lattice We Trust

Many mathematical problems — like figuring out prime number factors given a product — may be simple for the quantum computers coming over the next few years.

But some difficult problems would still take quantum computers years to figure out.

Indeed — finding those problems has been a primary focus of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) since 2016.

The organization has been tasked with identifying encryption models that can defeat tomorrow’s quantum computers.

NIST is scheduled to announce official guidance for the transition of all government systems to secure, quantum-resistant encryption next year.9

However, in the meantime, NIST has already announced the winners of a six-year competition to create the best post-quantum encryptions.

Of the four winners, three are based on a type of math problem called a structured lattice.10

These are problems based upon finding the shortest distance from one point to another… but through a mathematical universe with a huge number of dimensions.11

As the number of dimensions increases, the math of structured lattice problems becomes exponentially more difficult.

Enough so, that this type of math problem can keep ahead of quantum computing for years to come.

These kinds of algorithms are the answer to the Q-Day problem.

If they are implemented fast enough, Q-Day will go the way of Y2K — there never will be a problem.

If we are too slow, though, it may be a matter of limiting the damage.

Indeed — with China and Russia believed to have a large stash of encrypted information of all sorts, some damage may already be preordained.

That’s why it’s so important to speed this transition along.

Which makes it all the more surprising that there are almost no post-quantum cryptography public companies.

BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) is one of the only ones.

A History with Quantum Tech

While BTQ Technologies was formally founded in 2021, its founders started working on the project nearly a decade ago.

In fact, BTQ Technologies was originally inspired by a Vancouver-based venture capitalist’s investment in quantum computing.

Seeing where the technology was going, the need for new encryption technology became obvious.

The next five to six years were spent developing that encryption system — eventually creating the core patent that it runs on. And that other lattice-based encryption systems are already using as well.

With that core patent in hand, BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) was ready to go public.

Today, it is focused in the cryptocurrency space. With so many cryptographic interactions, it provides the perfect test bed for these post-quantum cryptographic keys.

BTQ is leading the transition for security standards for the largest decentralized player in the cryptocurrency space, Ethereum. Starkware, the developer of Starknet, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, has partnered with BTQ to integrate quantum-resistant signatures, advancing the network’s transition towards post-quantum security standards.

BTQ’s quantum secure technology  is fast proving the best way to protect cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystems.

But make no mistake: This encryption tech could work everywhere.

It has the potential to protect the accounts and transactions of banks…

And the secrets of the United States.

It could even protect communication between mother and son, or between captain and private.

This is essential technology — for national security, as well as for the security of all our digital systems.

Yet BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) is barely known in investing circles.

Because so few people are even aware that Q-Day is coming… or that the government and most major corporations are planning a complete and total overhaul of their digital security over the next few years.

The Time is Now

Once the reality of our new, post-quantum world sets in, the investing public will come rushing into quantum companies like BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF). As one of the most respected  companies in this space, and a holder of key patents, BTQ is positioned to become one of the biggest names in cryptography.

If you’re interested in the quantum computing future, BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) is worth consideration. Years ahead of the competition, it is already guiding serious clients like Starware the developer of Starknet a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum to post-quantum security solutions.

It is in position to compete for government contracts when the transition begins in earnest, and to provide the underpinnings for any company that deals with sensitive data or systems.

BTQ Technologies (NEO:BTQ,OTC:BTQQF) is one of the few pure quantum-computing plays on the public markets today. Talk with your financial advisor to see if an investment in this sector makes sense for you.
