Kroger Co. (KR.N) was the first U.S. supermarket chain that to use autonomous vehicles for delivering groceries in Scottsdale, Arizona. Kroger Co. was able to do this while partnering with Nuro, a startup at Silicon Valley.

This type of delivery service was controlled and monitored by Scottsdale companies. It was a pilot program that was conducted in August. The test used Nuro’s R1, an unmanned vehicle that was custom-made for the job. Using public roads, the R1 transports goods to homes.

In fact, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN.O) and Peers Walmart Inc. (WMT.N), as well as Ford Motor Co. (F.N), have invested a lot in unmanned vehicles to enhance their delivery operations.
